The launch of Facebooks Portal and Portal Plus devices is being accompanied by concerns over privacy and security. In a post yesterday on Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg wrote a few lines on the device and a provided a link to the pre-order. He posted a photo of his children using Portal to talk to their grandparents and claiming it makes video calling feel much more like hanging out. After privacy issues relating to firm Cambridge Analytica earlier this year, privacy is stated to be a key matter to be addressed with Portal. This is achieved with a physical cover for the camera and button to turn off the microphone.
This is all great apart from the likelihood that many individuals will not bother. Many customers will ignore the security problem for a great device that makes life easier.
