Philips Hue Starter Kit Review- The Place To Begin
If you haven’t read our Smart Lighting Buyers Guide, then I highly recommend taking a look to ensure you make the right purchasing decision to fit your individual needs. If you are willing to spend a little bit more compared to most brands for the Philips Hue lighting experience then this article serves you as a quick summary to the products they offer. As you will discover from reading our Philips Hue review, they have a very wide range of products to fit whatever your needs are. Philips Hue smart lighting products require a Philips Hue Bridge, a specific smart hub to the brand. Therefore, if it is your first purchase it is necessary that this is a part of the bundle you get. The cheapest and best way to get this is through purchasing a Philips Hue Starter kit as the Hue Bridge comes included. Each Philips Hue Starter Kit comes in either a pack of two or four bulbs with some accessories. For example, the Lightstrip Plus Philips Hue Starter Kit comes with an extension light strip and the Color and White Ambience Philips Hue Starter Kit can be ordered with a tap switch or a Lightstrip Plus as well. If you decide to go down the route of purchasing their smart lamps then you must make sure you purchase a Philips Hue Bridge individually.
Smart Bulbs – Philips Hue 3rd Generation Review
Philips Hue White Review
This basic bulb is the cheapest and just offers an on, off and dimming function. No colours or varied temperatures of white are available. This makes an ideal choice of smart bulb for anyone primarily looking to reap the money saving benefits of smart technology. These smart bulbs come as a Philips Hue Starter Kit in packs of two and four.
Philips Hue White Ambiance Review
This has different temperatures of white but no colours. Philips selling often focuses on the application of this bulb in sync with your body clock. A warm white in the morning makes for a steady wake up and a colder shade of white at night gives the perfect tone down in the evening. The Philip Hue Starter Kit in Hue White Ambiance come in packs of two and four
Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance Review
This smart bulb has 16 million colours that it can display and the capability to connect and sync with your home entertainment. The inbuilt AI interprets the music or film and displays light flashes and colours to appropriately accompany your entertainment experience. This is a more gimmicky function but nonetheless it is a fun feature. Of course, it still operates like a regular smart bulb the rest of the time. Get a Philips Hue Starter Kit with amazing colors in a pack of four. There are also options to get them with a lightstrip or a tap switch.
Philips Hue Directional Lighting Review
These bulbs have flat ends much like a regular spotlight styled bulb and are used in the same way as being fitted into the ceiling. The Hue PAR16 bulb is a just like a standard spotlight bulb and is less than half the strength of the standard Hue bulbs as it is a spotlight bulb. There is also the Hue White and Color BR30Bulb which is a large bulb which creates a flood lighting effect, great for recessed ceilings. There aren’t any Philips Hue Starter Kits for these products and just come in single units. Anyone wanting these need to have a Philips Hue Bridge in addition.

Other Philips Hue Lights Review
Hue Light Strip Plus Review
This mixes smart lighting and light strips which is great for subtle atmosphere building. Whether it be under your cabinets in the kitchen, over your car undercarriage to put the spotlight on your wheels or subtlety placed above your bed, you have more options to customise your home. There is a Lightstrip Philips Hue Starter Kit which comes with the Hue Bridge, Lightstrip Plus and one extension.
Philips Hue Go Review
This is a portable battery powered dish shaped light. Perfect for easily moving around or taking out with you to anywhere to shape mood. This would be great to take on holiday to enjoy some drinks on a beach at night.
Philips Hue Iris Review
This a plugged in dish shape light that adds a mild glow to your room. The Hue Iris is a pure ambience light and its color variation properties is a key selling. It works well when it is behind a sofa facing the wall to give a mild spotlight corner glow effect to the room.
Philips Hue Bloom Review
This is the baby brother of the Hue Iris. Just a smaller and dimmer version used for similar effect. This sets the perfect vibe for story time with your children before bed.
Philips Hue All In One Lighting Systems
Philips Hue Beyond Review
The Beyond comes as a lamp, pendant or a ceiling fixtures. In this circumstance Philips is taking a decision on your furniture choice as well as your lighting. Going with this product limits your personal choice of what lamps or lamp shades you use with your smart lighting. If you like the look of Philips designs then this could be a good product for you. If you like to take your interior design more in to your own hands then I recommend you purchase your bulbs and lighting fixtures separately
Philip Hue Phoenix Review
This is similar to the Beyond but has a different style and only displays white. Again, the style is limiting and some reviews have commented on its jellyfish like appearance…. I think it looks more like a UFO abducting someone!
Philips Hue Lighting Review Final Word
Philips Hue have an extensive and high performing range of smart lighting products. If this is your first purchase with their brand then purchasing a Philips Hue Starter Kit is highly recommended to get the Hue Bridge and a few bulbs to get your room glowing. Anyone looking for an individual bulb should consider a brand which products are hubless. LIFX is our favourite choice for that. This Philips Hue review has covered the range, although more may be released!
