Philips Hue Light Strip Plus
The Philips Hue collection has earned a formidable reputation spanning all its products in smart lighting. Just like the Philip Hue bulbs, the Philips Hue Light Strip Plus encompasses the wide range of functions found within the Hue app but also maintains the superior lighting quality, just in a strip form. We have kept it no secret that this brand of smart lighting is our favourite. From an effortless set up to its widely universal compatibility, the Philips Hue Light Strip scores highly in practically every category. This does come with a higher price tag but one that is more than worth it.
Light strips are cool as it is but the addition of smart functions make them something else. Now you can command your Alexa to control them to do whatever you please. I’ve either lost my mind or the future is here!
Where to Start?
Like with all Philips Hue products, a Hue Bridge is a mandatory piece of equipment that you must have to get your Light Strip Plus up and running. The Hue Bridge is a smart hub specific to Philips smart lighting products and although this initially seems like an annoying additional cost, it seems that smart lighting products which use a smart hub and/or a specific lighting hub outperform their rival. This is in regards to overall quality, range of functionality and compatibility with other smart products. If you already have a Philips Hue Bridge then you all you need to do is purchase the Philips Light Strip Plus and an extension if its needed. The Philips Light Strip Plus comes with a special power supply unit which acts as the infrastructure for communicating with the Hue Bridge. The nature of light strips mean they are highly customisable and it is incredibly easy to trim them down so they can fit in perfectly anywhere.
The Philips Hue Light Strip Plus is sold at 78.7 inches (2 metres) so depending on the size of the area you are wishing to cover you may either want to trim it down using a good old pair of scissors or purchase an an extension light strip. The light strip comes fitted with a peelable tape which is easy to use and will keep your lighting firmly held in place. Philips Hue Light Strip extensions are 40 inches long so depending on your needs you may need more than one. The Philips Hue Bridge superb compatibility applies all Philips smart lighting products including the Philips Light Strip Plus. This means you can integrate your smart lighting products into your other smart home products, IFTTT and voice recognition technology such as Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKits Siri and Google Assistant.

The Philips Hue Light Strip Plus is an LED, dimmable and colourful light strip designed for installing in otherwise non accessible spots in your home. Common places where light strips are installed are under units facing down, an example being beneath you kitchen cabinets to provide a glow on your counter. We love light strips as they give the users the opportunity to give some creative flair and make something more special. The Philips Light Strip Plus can extend to cool and warm white light up to 1,600 lumens. This a serious upgrade from the original model just could only manage a dim 120 lumens. It comes with a power adapter which is reasonably sizeable, so a strategy of hiding it is needed if you feel it is a bit of an eye sore.
The Philips Hue app functions for their smart bulbs mostly apply to the Philips Hue Light Strip Plus too. This makes it easy to choose from 16 million colours, different temperatures of white, scheduling and integration with other smart home technologies. It has ZigBee integrated into it, providing a cheaper method of device connection and communication over Wi-Fi. All in all the Philips Hue Light Strip allows for more dramatic and is arguably a cool alternative form of smart lighting.

The Philips Hue Light Strip Plus leads the smart light strip market currently albeit at a sightly higher price. This is attributed both to the quality of product, but also to the extra perks that come with the Philips Hue software. If you already own other Philips Hue products and you want some light strips added to your set then this is a wise choice as the set up will be effortless as everything else required to make it work will already be in place. If you require a very long light strip kit then this product may not be the answer as it is quite a short LED strip for the price as are the extensions.
